Join us at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute in the research lab as we identify, sort, and count macroinvertebrates (macro - big enough to see, invertebrates - animal without a backbone, or bugs). The macroinvert collected during the Fall MiCorps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program in the Thornapple River. During this lunch and learn you will be taught which macroinvertebrates tolerate pollution and which cannot and how they all serve as water quality indicators through long term research.
Matt Bain, Aquatic Specialist & Education Coordinator from GVMC/LGROW will guide us through proper identification of macroinvertebrates and related water quality ratings.
