Notice of Annual Meeting and Directors Election – Barry Conservation District

To all residents of Barry County, notice is hereby given that on February 24, 2022, the Barry Conservation District will hold its annual meeting and directors election.

The Barry Conservation District is seeking candidates to serve on the Board of Directors. Three seats will be up for election on February 24, 2023: (1) two-year term, expiring March, 2025 and (2) three-year terms expiring March, 2026.

The Barry Conservation District Board of Directors is made up of community members of diverse backgrounds. The board supports local natural resource conservation efforts, particularly through fund development and fundraising efforts. Board members attend regular monthly meetings, and occasional special subcommittee meetings, and volunteer at District events. Previous experience on boards is helpful, but not required.

Candidates must submit a nominating petition signed by a minimum of five district residents, at least 18 years of age, who live within the district boundary (Barry County) and can verify their current address by one piece of identification that proves residency. The deadline for nominating petitions is December 26, 2022 at 3:30 pm. Interested candidates can obtain a nominating petition by contacting the Executive Director phone or email, or at the Barry Conservation District office, 1611 S Hanover St, Suite 105, Hastings, MI.

Associate Board Member Openings

The Barry Conservation District continuously also seeks volunteer associate board members for the Board of Directors. These positions are appointed, not elected, and do not have defined term limits or an official vote in board decisions. However, associate members’ opinions are valued and their participation in meetings and events is encouraged.

People who are interested in resource issues in the county and would like to learn more and get involved are encouraged to inquire about an associate position. Interested candidates can contact the Executive Director by phone or email for more information.
