A watershed is all of the land that from which surface water empties into the same main waterbody (for our watersheds, that means a large river) and everything in and on top of that land. Barry County has two main watersheds, the Kalamazoo and the Thornapple (which includes the Tyler Creek subwatershed).
A management plan was created to help protect the water quality within the Thornapple River Watershed. Barry Conservation District was awarded a grant through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) to fund implementation of the Thornapple River Management Plan.
Our watershed coordinator, David Comeau, will help educate the public on the importance of water quality and help landowners by providing planning assistance and funding for agricultural conservation practices and septic maintenance.
