The Barry Conservation District is now hiring for the following three invasive species field positions. All three positions are seasonal (May to August), 40 hours a week.

Invasive Species Seasonal Crew Members (2 positions)
The Invasive Species Seasonal Crew Member will document invasive species infestations; work with private landowners to identify invasive species located on their property; treat invasive species using identified best management practices/herbicide application; and assist with mapping, publications, and outreach activities.

Invasive Crayfish Technician (1 position)
The Invasive Crayfish Technician will survey and manage red swamp crayfish via trapping, electrofishing, and spearing efforts. Most of the technician’s time will be spent in the Vicksburg area managing the known infestations. The technician will also travel to other prioritized bodies of water in the BCK area to survey for new red swamp crayfish populations. Efforts will intensify in other areas if red swamp crayfish are found in a new location. For all trapping efforts the Crayfish Technician will utilize the DNR’s “Red Swamp Crayfish Trapping Protocols,” as well as, the DNR’s data collecting and reporting strategies to help synthesize state-wide data.
